Highways and Public Transportation The City of Lowell offers excellent transportation access, a highly skilled and diversified work force, proximity to major vocational training and higher education institutions and a good business environment. Lowell is located in the heart of the Merrimack Valley just 30 miles northwest of Boston. It is easily accessible from Interstate 495 or the Intersection of Routes 2, 3 and 93. The commuter rail station at Gallagher Terminal, providing regular service connection with Boston's North Station, is located approximately 3/4 miles from the Boott Mills. Lowell Regional Transit Authority runs shuttles every 15 minutes between Gallagher Terminal and downtown Lowell, including a stop at the Boott Cotton Mills (cost: $.30). In overall terms, the bus network coverage and interconnections between Lowell and other cities and towns in the Merrimack Valley is excellent and includes service for the elderly and disabled. Accessible airports are in Tewksbury, North Andover, Bedford, Nashua and Manchester. |
